Studies at Chelsea School of Art

At the time the school was based on Manresa Road, Chelsea and during his studies, Jock meets his future wife Joan Lancaster. The craft of engraving suited his patience and technical precision, whilst the course would have also involved illustration and painting and was prior to the term ‘Graphic Design’ existing. Jock taking up design means that his father Guy becomes the last of seven continuous generations of surgeons, an unbeaten record according to the British Medical Journal 29 May 1954.1
